Soup & Ladle

sinigang
for the soul

Pronounced [sin – knee – gong]

So what is sinigang and why is this page dedicated to it?

Well to me it’s comfort food but for those who are not familiar with the Filipino dish here’s a little break down. It’s a sour soup commonly with a tamarind base. Made with tons of veggies like spinach, green beans, radish and a protein of your choice. Common types: beef, pork, salmon or shrimp. Literally my mouth just puckered typing this out that I might need to make some tonight. I’ll be sharing with you recipes from my family and friends whose dish varies in styles. I will even give my best shot at an authentic recipe.

I used to be so nervous to make this soup for people who have never tried Sinigang before. I guess because it is from the Philippines, I’m never sure how people will take to something sour. Now its my fiancé's and non-filipino friends favorite during Soup Season!
